THE CHIC LIST: Tricks, treats and my savvy early-bird Christmas wish list By Joanne Hegarty For You Magazine Published: 08:01, 26 October 2024 | Updated: 08:01, 26 October 2024 e-mail View comments Have you noticed this year how Halloween and Christmas are sitting side by side on the high street? Since the beginning of this month, stores including Selfridges and John Lewis have had their Christmas trees out at the same time as their pumpkins, which is, quite frankly, sacrilegious. What’s the darn rush? Can’t we enjoy one thing at a time any more? Blazer, & Other Stories, trousers, Vince, cuff, Jil Sander, bag, preloved Chanel I’ve always been a massive fan of Halloween and love how it’s become a bigger deal here. I have fond memories of my childhood in Ireland, bobbing for apples, hoping I wouldn’t choke on the ring buried in the barmbrack and dressing up with gusto for the local Halloween disco.

I’ve continued this enthusiasm with my 11-year-old son and will be taking him trick or treating again this year. Owing to other commitments, we’ll be out with our orange buckets in New York this time, where we’ll be targeting the West Village and the massive brownstones where stars like Sarah Jessica Parker live. I’ll report back on how that goes and whether the candy stash was generous.

I’ll be dressed in my favourite grey denims from Agolde, wrapped up in my dark brown wool coat from Cos, knee-high boots from Khaite and a huge witch’s hat. And I’ll be secret.
