Which? compared the prices of 63 grocery items you’ll typically put in your basket, revealing that Aldi came out on top, having the cheapest prices across the board.

Products included the likes of Heinz baked beans, milk and cheese. The budget supermarket was closely followed by rival German chain Lidl, even with loyalty prices at other competitors were considered. The average price of an Aldi shop in July (across the 63 items) came to a total of £113.
