A study of more than 200 seaside areas across the country found that Sandbanks in Poole, Dorset, is the most expensive with an average asking price of £1,582,331. Meanwhile, Canford Cliffs in Poole is the second-priciest area (£1,242,181) and Milford-on-Sea in is third (£751,442). By contrast, the popular holiday resort of Saltcoats in Ayrshire came in at the cheapest, where houses cost an average of just £122,520.

Easington in County Durham is second cheapest (£122,520), and Peterlee in County Durham is third (£124,593).
