In 1996, a smouldering Carolyn Murphy closed Tom Ford ’s autumn/winter Gucci catwalk in a cut-out gown with contoured hip hardware – ie, the same design Bella Hadid wore at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival – that Vogue dubbed the “fashion equivalent of a one-night stand at Studio 54”. Those iconic dresses have become an almost mythical grail for vintage dealers, and Sabato de Sarno this season riffed on his predecessors’ vision with deep red and brown iterations. Daisy Edgar-Jones was among the first to have laid eyes on them at de Sarno’s spring/summer 2025 presentation and took no less than a fortnight to acquire one of her own.
The actor was yesterday evening photographed at the British Film Institute’s Luminous Gala – which raises funds to protect the BFI’s archive – in an Ancora-red column dress draped from a bamboo-shaped choker with bicep bracelets and patent leather sandals. Edgar-Jones was joined by Joe Locke , Mia-McKenna Bruce , Richard Gadd , Marisa Abela , Josh O’Connor and Tilda Swinton .
