This Greek town looks like it could have been a set where Mamma Mia was filmed with its quiet streets and authentic style. Marpissa, Paros stands on the hill of Kefalos on the island of Kos, just above Piso Livadi, and is 18 km away from Parikia. The town is a traditional Cycladic village with whitewashed cubic houses, standing among narrow streets, churches and windmills.

Popular places to visit are the ruins of an old castle and the Monastery of Agios Antonios which can be found on the top of the hill of Kefalos. Also, the settlement hosts the Nikos Perantinos Sculpture Museum as well as a Byzantine Art Museum. With an impressive history dating back to the late Neolithic period, archaeological findings have hinted at the town’s ancient roots.

The ruined castle suggests a village was present during the 13th century. Surrounded by mountains and beaches, there are plenty of great nature spots to visit alongside taking in the traditions of the town itself. For somewhere to eat, Mylos Traditional Grill is a much-loved restaurant in the area.

Serving Mediterranean, barbeque and Greek dishes, the souvlaki is a must-try. One diner said: “We ate here two of our four nights in Paros as it was so good that our kids begged to return. The gyros and souvlaki were delicious.

It’s very charming, there was a queue on the street for a table on our second visit and I’m not surprised.” If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, the Aspires Suites are the perfect place for you to expl.
