A mere half an hour north from London lies Britain’s ‘ most desirable ’ town. Harpenden, in Hertfordshire, is roughly equidistant between Luton and St Albans and so nice that the average house sets you back well over the London average. Homes in the town cost £863,310 on average, more than £150,000 over what Rightmove lists London’s average house price as £705,835.

It’s also a place which was once home to Captain America actress Laura Haddock. There’s so much that attracts people to the town, such as the nine schools rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. MyLondon spoke with Michelle Davis, a negotiator at Strutt & Parker Estate Agents, who said visitors quickly realise what lifestyle they can have in the pretty commuter hotspot.

They hit the common in Harpenden and realise what they can get here. “We have excellent schools and we’re seeing people from London flocking here.

Because of the links we’ve got - such as the Elizabeth line which has really changed things up, you can get the Thameslink to Farrington within around 30 minutes. “We’ve got a bustling high street now, two Costas and a Gail’s bakery so it has that North London feel about it now.” MyLondon also spoke with Councillor Brian Ellis.
