Scarista Beach is said to be great for surfing (Image: Getty) Scarista Beach lies on the coast of the Hebridean Isle of Harris and is home to miles of beautiful golden sands and outstretched views of the Atlantic Ocean and Harris Hills. It is often named as one of the UK’s most magnificent beaches. It’s one of Scotland’s lesser-explored gems, but it’s well worth the visit.

It’s one of Harris’s best-known beaches, but it’s slightly difficult to get to as it means hiking over stiles and around the houses a bit. Driving distance from Glasgow is around 8 hours, while Manchester is 13, and from Cardiff, you’re looking at 14 and half hours of car time. If you fancy a long road trip however, travelling up to Scarista from London will set you back a huge 16 hours, so make sure you plan plenty of stops along the way.

The beach is ranked as the number one thing to do on the Isle of Harris on TripAdvisor, with many visitors singing Scarista’s praises with a five-star rating. function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.
