Films like Kalki 2898 AD,Indian 2, Salaar-Part 1- Ceasefire and Baahubali 2- The Conclusion have proven that there is a market for regional films in the United States of America. Each of the mentioned films has taken a flying start at the box office and some have gone to dominate the circuit like Baahubali 2. However, coming 15th August which is a big release day in India, the response to 2 big Telugu and 1 Tamil film hasn't exactly been great.
Three films from the south industry releasing in the States are Vikram 's Thangalaan , Ravi Teja ’s Mr Bachchan and Ram Pothineni ’s Double ISMART . With just 2 days to release, Ram’s film which also co-stars Sanjay Dutt , has earned $18,287 from 80 Locations, while Ravi Teja’s Mr Bachchan which seems to be inspired by Ajay Devgn ’s Raid has collected $17,274 from 53 Locations. The response to Telugu films are very underwhelming given that there are over 1 crore Telugu speakers in the state.
On the other hand, Tamil film Thangalaan with Vikram and Malvika Mohannan seems to be the least performing, with just US $5,150 from 51 Locations . In comparison Nani’s Saripodhaa Sanivaaram which is releasing on 29th August has earned over US $ 31000 and this is despite the trailer of the film not being released yet. The trailer is slated to release today and post that, the buzz is expected to go even higher.
