Wednesday, October 2, 2024 The founder of the Songkhla Tour Guide Association has emphasized the need for Songkhla province to enhance its cultural attractions and strengthen rail connectivity between Thailand and Malaysia to unlock the region’s tourism potential. This recommendation was part of a strategic proposal aimed at boosting the province’s tourism profile and was recently submitted to Senator Chaiyong Maneerungsakul in the Hat Yai district, a key commercial and transportation hub in southern Thailand. Wittaya Saelim, the association’s founder, highlighted the importance of leveraging Songkhla’s rich cultural heritage to attract more tourists.

He noted that the province’s unique blend of historical landmarks, traditional festivals, and local crafts could serve as powerful tourism magnets if promoted more effectively. By focusing on these cultural assets, Songkhla could differentiate itself from other Thai destinations, offering visitors a distinct and immersive experience. In addition to cultural promotion, Saelim also pointed to the critical need for better transportation infrastructure, particularly improved rail connections between Thailand and Malaysia.

Enhanced connectivity, he argued, would not only ease travel for tourists but also encourage cross-border trade and investment. This, in turn, could stimulate economic growth and create new revenue streams for the province. The proposal reflects growing concerns about the need to diversify Songkhla’s ec.
