Friday, August 16, 2024 UK Government Issues Updated Travel Advisory for Thailand Amid Visa Changes The UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) has issued new travel guidance for those planning trips to Thailand, highlighting significant updates to visa entry requirements. The changes, effective as of August 15, 2024, provide essential information for travelers to ensure smooth entry into the popular Southeast Asian destination. According to the latest advisory, visitors can now stay in Thailand for up to 60 days for purposes such as tourism, business engagements, or urgent work.

Travelers have the option to extend this visa for an additional 30 days. For those planning multiple visits within a short period, a multiple-entry visa can be obtained in advance, allowing stays of up to 60 days per visit. However, the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office warns against overstaying any visa, noting that fines of 500 Thai baht per day—capped at 20,000 baht—may be imposed.

Those who overstay may also face detention, deportation at their own expense, or even a ban from re-entering Thailand for up to ten years. The advisory also underscores the harsh conditions in Thai detention centers, urging travelers to comply strictly with visa regulations. The Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office further emphasizes that travelers must ensure their passports have at least six months of validity remaining from the date of arrival in Thailand, with one blank page av.
