Saturday, September 21, 2024 Starting on December 1, 2024, Thailand will implement a new Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) requirement for travelers from Mauritius, South Africa, and Morocco. This change will mark the end of visa-free access for citizens of these countries, as Thailand seeks to enhance its immigration controls and strengthen border security. New Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) Requirement for African Travelers to Thailand Travelers from the following countries will now need to apply for an ETA before entering Thailand: These travelers, who previously enjoyed visa-free travel to Thailand, must now complete the pre-travel requirement of securing an ETA.

Thailand continues to be a favored travel destination among tourists from the Africa. Cities in Mauritius, South Africa, and Morocco, in particular, have seen a growing number of their citizens choosing Thailand for holidays. The introduction of the ETA system will initially be a pilot program starting December 1, 2024, and is expected to be fully operational by June 2025.

The entire process will be conducted online through Thailand’s official e-Visa portal, and the ETA will be provided at no cost to travelers. The ETA will allow a single entry into Thailand and be valid for up to 60 days. Visitors who wish to extend their stay can apply for a one-time extension of 30 days without having to leave the country.

This flexibility makes it easier for tourists to enjoy a longer stay without facing the hass.
