As an auto journalist Infiniti likes to keep us on our toes. First there’s the name, ever-so-slightly spelled differently that annoys Spellcheck. Then there’s the alphanumeric naming convention for all their vehicles.

Sigh. The struggles of a lucky, fortunate, first-world problem automotive writer. Enough with this faux pity party.

This week I’m driving the 2024 Infiniti QX50 Autograph. This is a compact luxury SUV. To remind you my loyal readers, Infiniti is Nissan’s luxury brand that competes with Lexus and Acura.

So how does it stand out and compete? Well it quietly competes by not doing anything poorly. On the flipside it’s not outstanding with any features either. But honestly that’s typical for all the Japanese luxury brands.

On the outside, the QX50 is curvaceous. There is nothing boxy about this SUV and that’s a good thing. The front end is conservatively designed, lacking a garish grille.

The entire exterior styling is intended to be refined and elegant, rather than bold, and for this SUV that is mission accomplished. The bulbous back end is highlighted with a sporty-looking spoiler and taillights that are right sized and elegant. From a performance standpoint, the QX50 is equipped with a 2.

0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It generates 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. My tester had all-wheel drive (AWD) which is standard for this trim only.

The only transmission is a continuously variable (CVT) which is really the only drawback to .
