Pune: A 16-year-old murdered a 17-year-old and injured his friend in a knife attack on Tuesday night after a dispute among the trio during Navaratra . The police have detained the 16-year-old teenage on charges of murder and attempted murder. They also registered a case of attempted murder against the deceased and his injured friend for attacking the 16-year-old with a billhook.

Assistant inspector Ambarish Deshmukh, who detained the teenager, told TOI, "The 16-year-old boy is a school dropout residing in Nigdi. The 17-year-old and his friend are from Chikhali. They were involved in a dispute during Navaratra but it was resolved then.

" Deshmukh said on Tuesday afternoon, the 17-year-old and the suspect accidentally met near a paan stall and again had a heated argument. "They threatened each other with dire consequences. The teenager then asked the suspect to meet him in the evening near the former's house," he said.

The officer said that around 8 pm, the victim and his accomplice reached Nigdi on a motorcycle, carrying a billhook with them. The suspect also arrived with a knife. "The 17-year-old attacked the suspect with the billhook.

However, the suspect dodged it and assaulted the 17-year-old in the face with the knife. The knife cut the victim's cheek and damaged his brain. The suspect also assaulted the deceased's accomplice and fled," Deshmukh said.

He mentioned that the victim and accomplice were taken to a hospital, where the victim was declared dead by the doctors, De.
