Pune: A 23-year-old software engineer from Wagholi died after a dumper truck ran over him on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway around 7am on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Chaitanya Umesh Shinde. Umesh Shinde (48), father of the deceased, lodged a complaint against the unidentified truck driver with the Lonikand police.

According to the police, Shinde was working with a software company at Kharadi. On Tuesday morning, he was heading towards his company from Wagholi on his scooter. He recently completed engineering from a city-based college.

Police said the truck was also heading in the same direction. It first hit the scooter from behind after which Shinde lost balance and fell on the road. He then came under the wheels of the truck.

He was taken to a private hospital in Yerawada, where he was declared dead. Police checked the CCTV footage of various establishments along the highway. It was seen that a red-coloured truck was involved in the accident.
