Kendrapada: A leopard skin with bullet marks was seized from a suspected poacher in Jajpur district on Tuesday. The arrested person was identified as Prasan Champia (35) of Champaghar village under Tamaka forest range. Two others fled from the spot.

Forest department sources said a leopard hide was seized from Rathapada Chhack area during a search near Duburi-Naranapur road. Preliminary probe revealed the man along with others gunned down a leopard in the nearby forest. The skin has eight gunshot marks.

“The accused was arrested under Wildlife Protection Act,” said forest range officer , Tamaka, A K Dalei. “We are trying to ascertain where the poachers killed the animal,” said the .forest officer.
