Herbie Hancock, Pharrell Williams, and Kendrick Lamar are just some of the huge names that beloved jazz musician Jamie Cullum has worked with throughout his career. But as he wandered through the streets of Birmingham speaking to the Glasgow Times on the phone, Jamie tipped two up-and-coming Glasgow/Glasgow-based musicians as the future of jazz. (Image: Picture credit: Charles Gall) Describing Fergus McCreadie and Corto Alto as the ‘brightest hope’ of the genre, Jamie said: “They are two of Scotland’s finest and two of the brightest hopes in the Jazz world .
” He went on to say that he would love to work with the two if he could collaborate with anyone from Scotland . McCreadie who is also part of the Fergus McCreadie Trio is best known for his song Glade and as the winner of the 2022 Scottish Album of the Year Award. Meanwhile, Corto Alto, famous for his song Slope, was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize earlier this year.
Picture credit: Charles Gall And speaking of our fine city, Jamie cannot wait to return as part of his upcoming UK tour where he is set to play at the SEC Armadillo on November 24. “I know The Armadillo is meant to be a great venue, I am really looking forward to playing it,” Jamie said. He continued: “When I come to Scotland it is always a riot because you all love live music.
