Apocalypse-fearing people can now buy emergency food kits for their family which have a shelf life of up to 25 years. Big-box retailer Costco is offering the hefty buckets, which contain a whopping 25,280 calories, ensuring even the most weary doomsday survivor will be stocked up on pasta alfredo and teriyaki rice. The kits cost $99 (£76) and have a variety of meals , making up to 150 servings according to the box.

The 'emergency preparedness bucket' is a "meticulously curated package" that "goes beyond just food", Costco says. It's product description it explains that it contains 80 servings of hearty entrees and sides, 30 servings for nourishing breakfasts, and an additional 40 drink servings. The kit by ReadyWise also says that it is catered for "a world where unpredictability has become a constant" and it's an ideal backup incase of a "sudden onset of severe weather , the challenges of unexpected job transitions, or the unsettling thought of food shortages.

" Inside you can find 'just add water' meals including pasta alfredo, cheesy macaroni, teriyaki rice, creamy pasta and vegetables, potatoes and chicken flavoured pot pie, tomato basil soup with pasta, crunchy granola and many more. Though the kits have been around for a while, cookbook author Jeffrey Eisner (@pressureluckcooking on Instagram) posted a video about the food bucket after spotting it at his local Costco.
