Plans to transform a "landmark" listed building in Wearside into a luxurious private residence have been given the go-ahead by Sunderland City Council. The "exceptional" Langham Tower, situated on land between Ryhope Road and Mowbray Road, received planning permission earlier this month. Originally constructed in 1889, the Grade II listed building will undergo a stunning transformation to accommodate at least five en-suite bedrooms.

Blueprints for the ambitious project, submitted earlier this year, also detail plans for several lounges, a dedicated study, and a basement gym spread across multiple floors. Langham Tower, once part of Sunderland High School before its closure in 2016, has most recently served as a restaurant and bar with function rooms under the name Langham Tower Bar & Grill. Listed on the property market by Bradley Hall with a guide price of £850,000, a sign at the site currently confirms the building has been sold "subject to contract.
