Sudha Murty, has expressed her admiration for her son-in-law, the former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, crediting his deep-rooted Indian values despite his British citizenship. Speaking at the annual Diwali gala hosted by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in London, she highlighted the role of Sunak’s upbringing in shaping his character. In her speech, the renowned author pointed out that Sunak’s parents, Usha and Yashvir Sunak, deserve recognition for instilling strong Indian cultural principles in their son, even while raising him in the United Kingdom.

These values, she added, have allowed Sunak to balance his identity as a proud British citizen with a connection to his Indian heritage. Happy Diwali to all those celebrating across the UK and around the world. Akshata and I were delighted to mark it with @ShivaniRaja_LE tonight in Leicester - home of the largest Diwali celebrations outside of India.

"I want to congratulate Usha Ji, my sambandhi and a good friend of mine, who gave her son Rishi Sunak, former prime minister, a great route to identify with the culture, making him a proud British citizen as well as (having) good Indian cultural values," she added.
