A stunning light display unlike any other is coming to very soon, and it is one you will not want to miss. Crown and Coronation is set to completely transform the interior of the historic monument in an awe-inspiring light show that celebrates our nation’s royal history. Launching on Tuesday, September 24, the spectacle comes thanks to a unique collaboration between artist Peter Walker and composer David Harper.

The pair have partnered under the name Luxmuralis, with this latest piece having been created with Historic Royal Palaces – the charity that cares for the Tower of London. After launching at the Tower of London in November 2023, the immersive light show will now stun Kent crowds at the ancient cathedral for five consecutive nights. Archways, stone and stained glass windows will be bathed in striking illuminations taking guests on a journey through over 1,000 years of history, exploring the majesty and importance of coronations and The Crown Jewels.

Organisers have said: “Crown and Coronation will bring the spectacle, significance and shared experience of Coronations to life, demonstrating the pivotal role of the Crown Jewels, part of the Royal Collection, within the ceremony.” Expertly crafted soundscapes will help set the tone as the displays wash over the cathedral’s magnificent interiors, creating a real feast for the senses. The Crown Jewels will be projected using fascinating footage backed by emotive musical pieces, culminating in an experience you sur.
