Pune: The strike by clerical staffers of regional transport offices entered the second day on Wednesday. Kondhwa resident Afroz Shaikh, who went to Pune RTO to submit documents for his vehicle, couldn't do so. While returning, he got stuck in heavy rain.
"Why cannot the state govt just resolve the issue? People are hassled every day," he said. Atul Kalash, a Pimpri resident, went to Pimpri Chinchwad RTO office to renew his autorickshaw permit but had to return home without getting his job done. Akshaye Jadhav, who went to the Pune RTO for work related to his commercial vehicle, faced a similar situation.
"The strike needs to end soon. It is causing a lot of inconvenience to people," Jadhav said. An official with the Pune regional transport office told TOI that the strike would continue until their demands were met.
"Our members are in Mumbai, but no talks were held with the transport commissioner on Wednesday. Hence, the strike would continue on Thursday, too," Jagdish Kande, the working president of Motor Vahan Vibhag (RTO) Karmchari Sanghatna, said. Close to 1,500 clerical staffers from 50 RTO offices across the state, including offices in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, are on an indefinite strike from Monday to protest the failure of the authorities to implement the promotion scheme from clerical cadre to office superintendent.
