Storm Lilian has caused wide disruption to flights across the UK, with the fierce winds grounding many and delaying dozens. The storm, named by the Met Office on Thursday, was forecast to bring gusts of up to 80 miles per hour today, prompting travel disruption, flooding, power cuts and dangerous conditions near coastal areas. Passengers have been hit by the impact to airlines this morning, with British Airways services to and from Heathrow Airport this worst hit so far.

The Met office issued two new yellow weather warnings for rain in south-west Scotland and the Aberdeenshire coast from 9pm on Thursday to 9am Friday. The bank holiday weekend could not have got to a worse start for many, with large queues forming at Manchester Airport and Heathrow this morning.
