The BBC has revealed in its annual report how much radio legend Steve Wright was paid in his last year as a stalwart of Radio Two. Presenting icon Steve had hosted shows for more than four decades and was tragically found dead aged just 69 in Febraury. The BBC;s accounts reveal his final salary after he was axed from his Radio 2 afternoon show.

The long-standing presenter hosted the afternoon show on Radio 2 from 1999 to 2022 before it was axed, and he was replaced by Scott Mills. At the unveiling of the BBC's annual report, it was revealed that Steve was on £205,000, which consisted of his remaining shows including Sunday Love Songs and Pick of the Pops. This was down from £360,000 which included the afternoon show.

For decades, millions of ­people tuned in every weekend to hear the most romantic show on ­British radio. On Steve Wright 's Sunday Love Songs, the veteran DJ played heartfelt dedications for listeners and told stories of real-life romance. Along with his main show, Steve Wright in the Afternoon, it helped push the Radio 2 star to a high spot in the BBC earnings league.

But the irony was that work left Steve with no time for a romance of his own. His marriage broke up 25 years ago, and he said there was simply no time to find a new partner.
