Thiruvananthapuram : The state govt has approved the recommendation given by the corporation to build a house for the mother of N Joy , the sanitation worker who drowned while cleaning the Amayizhanjan canal. According to an order issued by the govt, the district panchayat must identify and provide a plot of at least 3 cents. The corporation will build the house under subsidy conditions.

The house will be built close to the current location where she is residing. Previously, the state govt had sanctioned a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for Joy’s mother from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. Joy, a resident of Marayamuttom near Neyyattinkara, had got caught in a sudden current caused by heavy rain and went missing while cleaning the canal near Thampanoor railway station on July 13.
