Pune: Maharashtra chief secretary Sujata Saunik on Thursday said she had on Monday submitted the compliance report to ECI's letter of July 31, which directed her to carry out the transfer of all the officers who had completed three years in one district. The Election Commission of India had then sought a comprehensive compliance report by Aug 20. When no such report was submitted till the specified date, the ECI had sent out a fresh letter on Sept 27, asking why the report had not been furnished within the stipulated time limit despite reminders.

During chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar's two-day visit to Mumbai on Saturday, fresh instructions were issued for the immediate transfer of officers who have completed three years in one district ahead of the assembly elections. "I submitted the report on Monday, as was discussed in the meeting," Saunik told TOI. Sources from the chief electoral office confirmed of receiving the report.

The ECI letter issued on Sept 27 referred to July 31 letter and sought a compliance report by the chief secretary and the director general of police (DGP) on the action obtained from the concerned departments or offices of state govt by Aug 20. "Despite the above directions, no report was received from the chief secretary and the DGP till the due date. Reminders were issued vide the commission's letter on Aug 22, Sept 11, and Sept 25, directing thereby to furnish the reports urgently," the letter stated.
