Call the Midwife star Jessica Raine has teased details about the second series of her 'chilling' TV series The Devil's Hour. The actress, 42, who is best known for playing Jenny Lee in Call the Midwife, plays main character Lucy Chambers in Amazon Prime Video's The Devil's Hour, which also stars Peter Capaldi as Gideon Shepherd. The first season of the time-travelling psychological thriller created by Tom Moran followed the ripples through history that connect serial killer Gideon and mother Lucy.

In series two, the new five episodes are both a sequel and a prequel, revealing Gideon’s true intentions as he forms an uneasy alliance with Lucy to hunt down and extinguish an elusive force of evil. However, Lucy’s past-life husband DI Ravi Dhillon (Nikesh Patel), who she mentored in another timeline, is working with DS Sam Boyd (Saffron Hocking) to capture Gideon. Meanwhile, Lucy’s son Isaac (Benjamin Chivers) struggles to survive in a reality that rejects his existence and he falls victim to powerful new emotions that will change the fate of all characters and their recurring lives.

Appearing on Wednesday's Lorraine, guest host Christine Lampard said of the series: "It's been dubbed TV's most chilling show!" as she asked actress Jessica about protraying the "complex" character of Lucy. Jessica said of her character: "So in series one, we meet Lucy, she's very frazzled. She is the mother of an eight-year-old boy who is an emotionless blank so that is sort of disturbing in it.
