A shark has been spotted in St Ives, Cornwall (Image: TigerLillyBoatTrips/BNPS) Sunbathers on a Cornwall beach were sent into a frenzy after a 10-foot shark was spotted a few metres from the beach. The creature, which caused a stir in St Ives Harbour, led to more than a dozen children swimming nearby to scramble out of the water in fear. The sight of the juvenile basking shark's fin sparked panic in the normally tranquil UK seaside town on Monday evening.

Local boat trip operator Andy Narbett, 49, witnessed the shark just a stone's throw away from the swimmers as he strolled by the harbour. Speaking to MailOnline , he said: "I had finished my trips for the day and was walking around the harbour front when I spotted the juvenile basking shark next to the harbour wall. It was incredible to see it so close and very rare as we haven't seen any basking sharks for some years in the bay.
