Wednesday, August 14, 2024 Warm Pacific Greetings from the SPTO Division of Sustainable Tourism! We’re delighted to welcome you to this special edition of the Pacific Sustainable Tourism Newsbeat. July has been an eventful month for our team, particularly with the ongoing Climate Champions and Destination Management Training Programme. This initiative has brought together SPTO staff and National Tourism Organisations (NTOs ) from eight Pacific destinations, all working collaboratively to enhance their expertise in these crucial areas.
This month’s edition is packed with highlights from our sustainable tourism initiatives. We’re thrilled to share insights from the Te Unga Mai Professional Development Programme, which took place in Rotorua, New Zealand, from July 30th to August 2nd, 2024. This programme offered valuable lessons in destination management and sustainability, which will significantly inform our regional strategies moving forward.
We also spotlight Simione Sevudredre, a cultural expert and founder of Sau Vaka Culture Consultancy. Simione has played a pivotal role in the creation of the Pacific Cultural Tourism Guidelines and the Sustainable Tourism World Heritage Sites initiative. His latest venture involves developing e-modules for the Pacific Cultural Tourism Professional Certificate, a major step in preserving and promoting our region’s cultural heritage within the tourism sector.
