The opening date of a major retailer on one of Nottingham's struggling shopping streets has been confirmed. Sports Direct is set to move into the former H&M unit on Lister Gate, with plans having been put forward at the end of May. This comes as the Swedish retailer H&M left the city centre street at the beginning of May to relocate on the lower mall in Victoria Centre .

Frasers Group, which owns Sports Direct, has now confirmed when shoppers can expect the new store to open. A spokesperson said: "We are pleased to share that the Sports Direct on Lister Gate in Nottingham is set to open in early 2025. The 30,000 sq.

ft store will give Nottingham customers access to the world’s best sports and lifestyle brands, as well as offer other brands from the Frasers Group ecosystem, including USC, GAME and Jack Wills." The opening of Sports Direct will come just over a year after Flannels, a luxury designer clothing shop selling brands such as Gucci and Saint Laurent, opened its doors on Lister Gate in October 2023. Flannels is also owned by Mike Ashley's Frasers Group and is located next door to where Sports Direct will be.

The store relocated from nearby Bridlesmith Gate. It's still unclear whether the Sports Direct store on Clumber Street will continue operating once the new premises open in 2025.
