A month ago, Disney and Sony Pictures officially locked in a July 24th 2026 release date for a fourth Tom Holland-led “Spider-Man” film. The announcement came after Holland confirmed that filming will begin next Summer on the film under the helm of “Shang-Chi” director Destin Daniel Cretton and would likely be the sole Marvel film set to open between the two “Avengers” movies in May 2026 and May 2027 respectively. One complication with that date was that it would arrive the week after Christopher Nolan’s new film opens on July 17th 2026 – a film that also stars Holland.
That movie is expected to lock up IMAX screens for a while – preventing Sony from booking those. Another is that Holland has to shoot the Nolan film before working on Spider-Man and there was concern over scheduling as to make its July date, the Spidey film can’t really shoot any later than May to meet the date. At the start of this week, Jeff Sneider reported on that production delays means filming on the title is being pushed back to begin in the second half of 2025 and could bleed slightly into 2026.
If that’s the case, it won’t make the July date. Cut to today and reliable scooper (via ) indicates that “Spider-Man 4” is being pushed to a Christmas 2026 release – arriving five years after ‘No Way Home’ was such a massive success in that same slot. December 2026 currently has no “Avatar” or “Star Wars” films.
