Saturday, November 9, 2024 SpiceJet has announced its plan to launch seaplane operations across India next year, aiming to improve connectivity to some of the country’s most remote and scenic destinations. With the rights to operate seaplane services on 20 key routes, including Lakshadweep, Hyderabad, Guwahati, and Shillong, the airline plans to roll out these services as infrastructure develops. In a demonstration of the possibilities, SpiceJet recently operated a seaplane flight from Vijayawada’s Prakasam Barrage to the Srisailam Dam, showcasing the potential of these aircraft to reach otherwise hard-to-access locations quickly and efficiently.

According to SpiceJet, seaplanes are set to become a transformative mode of transportation for India, where diverse geographies like coastlines, islands, and riverine regions often face infrastructure challenges. This innovation promises to make travel to isolated areas more feasible and to provide a boost to local economies through increased tourism and mobility. SpiceJet has collaborated closely with De Havilland Canada in seaplane trials across multiple sites, leveraging its expertise to provide engineering, technical, and logistical support crucial for operational success.
