The survey, conducted between July 18 and July 26, reveals that 76.3% of Spaniards are in favor of capping the number of tourist apartments and regulating the issuance of licenses, including those in the Canary Islands such as Tenerife and Lanzarote.

This stance highlights growing concerns about the impact of the booming short-term rental market, which now boasts over 350,000 tourist apartments nationwide, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Regional governments and local authorities have already started imposing restrictions on short-term rentals, and the central government is joining the effort. The rise in short-term rentals has led to significant housing shortages and increased prices, prompting calls for a moratorium on new vacation rental licenses in popular regions like the Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca, and Barcelona.
