Pune: HQ Southern Command , Pune, commemorated the 78th Independence Day on Thursday with a series of events highlighting the patriotic spirit, rich heritage of the nation and valour of its soldiers. Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, along with all ranks and veterans, paid homage to the bravehearts in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Command War Memorial. The Southern Command also launched a tree plantation drive under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ to mark the event.

The Army Commander and officials of all ranks planted over one lakh saplings in Pune Cantonment, embodying the commitment of the Indian Army towards a greener earth. Celebrations culminated with a ‘flagging in’ ceremony of a motorcycle expedition, which commenced on Kargil Vijay Diwas from Colaba, Mumbai.
