Over the past several months Southern 7 Health Department (S7HD) has conducted active tick surveillance in the southernmost seven counties in Illinois for all species. Tests recently completed by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) have confirmed that two ticks collected in the region have tested positive for Enrlichiosis (ur·luh·kee·ow·suhs) viruses. Southern 7 reports that one tick collected in Pulaski County came back positive for Ehrlichia ewingii and one tick collected in Hardin County came back positive for Ehrlichia chaffeensis.
Both ticks were amblyomma americanum or the Lonestar tick. Javascript is required for you to be able to read premium content. Please enable it in your browser settings.
