An Essex woman who died after being bitten by a dog has been named. Michelle Hempstead, 34, was attacked at an address in Southend before being rushed to hospital in London in July this year. Ms Hempstead was attacked on July 29 in Retort Close, Southend with paramedics being called to the scene.

She was transferred to Southend Hospital and then the Royal London Hospital for further treatment. Tragically despite the best efforts of all medical staff she died in hospital the following day on July 30. A police investigation into her death is continuing.

She was sent to Southend Hospital and then transferred to the Royal London Hospital for further intervention but despite this, she died on July 30. "A post-mortem was carried out by Dr Benjamin Swift which gave a provisional cause of death as 1A multiple organ failure, 1B hypovolemic shock, 1C transection of left artery and 1D dog bite wound to the left upper arm.

" Senior Coroner Lincoln Brookes said: "I formally open the inquest touching upon the death of Michelle Hempstead. Usually, I would adjourn, but I have received a request .
