With this in mind, we have chosen some of the best circular walks in the area with a cosy pub en route, according to AllTrails. These walking routes are ideal for those wanting a pit stop for a warm cup of coffee, hot chocolate or even a delicious roast dinner.

Barnard Castle and the River Tees Distance: 6.3km (1 hour 35 minutes) Difficulty: Easy This route is described as a “lovely” circular trail from Barnard Castle in County Durham as walkers can take in “a mix” of natural and historic sights. Its AllTrail description explains: “At first glance, the trail seems to be a simple stroll along the river and back, but in fact there’s plenty of extra interest.
