KEARNEY — Director Eleanor Hajda understands the importance of giving children a chance to perform on stage. “I think it is so, so important — and consequently joyful — to encourage the fine arts in the younger generation,” she said. “I love that Kearney Community Theatre has the Academy of Children’s Theatre so we can really cultivate and encourage the fine arts.
The kids really are joyful and happy to be here. They are working so hard.” Hajda noted that with a cast of 25, the performers in “Snow White and the Seven Endings” all get a chance to share the stage and the spotlight.
“I love the word ‘joyful,’” she said. “It really has been joyful to be a part of this and to have this community here.” Hajda will direct two performances of “Snow White and the Seven Endings,” written by Tracy Wells, 7 p.
m. Friday and 2 p.m.
Saturday at Kearney Community Theatre. The Friday performance is sold out, but tickets remain for the Saturday show. Admission is $8.
Hajda described the show as a fun comedy. “We meet all of the forest dwellers after their adventure with Snow White,” she said. “Each of them recounts their version of the ending.
Each forest dweller has a different genre, so each story and each scene is an ode to that genre. We have a murder mystery scene, a dance number and we even have a fight scene. It is super fast paced.
Even though we have some slightly more serious elements, it is, overall, a comedy. The kids do a fantastic job of .
