Pune: At least five back-to-back burglary attempts in the last week in different housing societies of the upscale Kalyaninagar area have left residents worried. In fact, the citizens said close to double the number of house break-ins have occurred over the past month. Most recently, burglars struck at five societies in lanes 8, 9, and Central Avenue in the area.

Residents said almost all attempts were made in flats that were closed for some time or empty. In the last month, at least five flats were targeted in a single building in lane 8. Now, complaints have been lodged with the Yerawada police station regarding these incidents, with citizens pushing for higher vigilance and continuous patrolling in the locality, even during daytime.

The police said that based on residents' complaints, vigilance has been improved and they are trying to find out if a specific team of burglars is targeting the area. A resident of lane 8, businessman Ravi Mehta, told TOI, "Two days ago in the afternoon, there was noise in the common space of the society, so I went to check. We got to know from the security staff that two houses, which were shut for a long time as the owners were away, had been broken into.

The security staff alerted members of the society, and we all gathered and decided to make a complaint to the police. It is very worrisome." Another resident of Kalyaninagar, IT professional Akhil Kumar, said, "We have been checking the pattern and studying all eight break-ins that happened o.
