Known professionally as SkyFiiE, music producer Stanis Yohang is leaving a permanent signature sound on Papua New Guinea’s music scene. As the founder of Darkroom Digital Studios, Yohang has spent over a decade crafting a unique sound influenced by iconic 70s, 80s, and 90s rock, reggae legends like Bob Marley and Lucky Dube, and beloved local studios like CHM and Cyclone Studios. Yohang, of Ponam/Andra and Wutung, launched Darkroom Digital Studios in 2009 as an underground venture.
For nearly a decade, he produced music solely for personal improvement, experimenting with styles and refining his mixes. It wasn’t until 2018 that Yohang began releasing his work to the public. Since then, he’s evolved into a prolific producer, offering a wide range of genres from classical rock, pop, reggae, and jazz to local PNG styles, TikTok trends, and hip hop.
“I incorporate classic elements into my production, not to copy, but to create a groove that reverberates,” says Yohang, whose adaptive approach enables him to work across genres depending on each artist’s unique style. Darkroom Digital Studios has attracted some of PNG’s biggest names, including Anslom Nakikus, Sir George Telek, and Ragga Siai, along with renowned session musicians like Adrian Gedisa and Douglas Lamo. Yohang’s work has led to standout productions that have garnered both local and international acclaim.
