I live in Groningen and I think it's a great alternative in The Netherlands to bustling Amsterdam. Food prices can be cheaper and it has spots just as beautiful as what you'd find in Amsterdam. The local vibes of Groningen are wonderful, and it's a short train ride from Amsterdam.

As a local who moved nearby to Groningen about 10 years ago, I think you're missing out if you don't take a two-hour train ride up north to escape the many tourists and high prices.
