With a major heatwave approaching Europe, sun protection is even more important than ever warns Tropic Skincare founder. Summer has definitely arrived, with weather experts warning of a "rampant" heatwave in Europe that is set to intensify in a matter of days, caused by a 38C "African plume " that will also affect parts of the UK. That means that UV protection is more important than ever, however many people jetting off on holiday to sunnier climates from Scotland during the school holidays might be making a serious mistake when it comes to sunscreen.

Many of us might have fallen into the trap of thinking: "Oh, it's OK, I don't need to buy sun lotion, I still have that bottle from last year...

or even the year before that." However, skincare expert Susie Ma recently issued an important warning about the dangers of using old or expired sunscreen. If anyone knows about keeping your skin protected, it's her, as the Tropic Skincare founder is the richest Apprentice UK runner-up of all time.

"When buying SPF, look for products that print expiry dates in full view so you can make full use of their lifespan," Ma explained to Fox News. The problem with expired sunscreen is that it simply will not provide the same level of SPF protection that is advertised on the bottle, meaning you could end up with painful, potentially dangerous sunburn. Expired suncream can even cause allergic reactions, for example redness and irritation on the skin, as its ingredients are no longer stable.

Despit.
