All Creatures Great and Small is coming back to Channel 5 soon as season five gears up to make its debut. The much-loved escapist drama has also recently become available on Netflix . Inspired by the written works of Alf Wight, better known as James Herriot, the series touches on Alf's real-life experiences while working as a Yorkshire vet.

In the Channel 5 adaptation, Nicholas Ralph plays keen vet, James Herriot. He works under Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West), the eccentric owner of Skeldale House veterinary practice. Realising James' passion and potential, Siegfried offers James part-ownership of the practice.

The series was filmed in the Yorkshire Dales , often around Nidderdale, with the village of Grassington in Upper Wharfedale used for the fictional village of Darrowby. A private residence in Grassington was used for the exterior of Skeldale House in the 2020 series. The real Skeldale House which was used for filming the original series is managed by Maison Parfaite - owned and run by its founders, husband and wife team Sean and Sarah McDermott.

Rooms within the building in Askrigg can be rented out, with the website listing the location as "The Original Filming Location of All Creatures Great & Small".
