ELIZABETHTON — Several local organizations dedicated to making Carter County a better place to live will join forces this Sunday for a community clean-up. Four non-profit organizations, Meet the Mountains, Responsible Stewardship, Keep Carter County Beautiful and Main Street Elizabethton will be joining with downtown businesses Hellbender Outfitters and Riverside Taphouse to host a zero-waste clean-up on Sunday from 9 a.m.

to noon. The volunteer workers will meet at the Riverside Taphouse, 635 E. Elk Ave.

The workers will be going through various parts of Elizabethton affected by litter, including the Tweetsie Trail, Downtown Elizabethton, the Covered Bridge Park. One promoter of the event said “this is our way of erasing the negative impact that sometimes large crowds can bring into a small community or town. This will be a zero added waste cleanup, meaning we will be using reusable gloves and reusable bags to collect the litter in, then dumping it into designated dumpsters for proper disposal.

This is a free event and is family and pet friendly.” Trash bags and gloves will be provided. Volunteers are reminded to dress according to the weather and wear sturdy footwear.

Volunteers should register for the event at: Register for Meet the Mountains Cleanup . Main Street Elizabethton will be providing a complimentary lunch plus $1 off first beverage from Riverside Taphouse for volunteers who register by Friday..
