HAVING taken time off last year to concentrate on her studies, actress Julia Farhana Marin is ready to get back to some onscreen action."But please, no more 'penyondol' roles for me!" interjects the 30-year-old artiste."I'm tired of playing the other woman for the umpteenth time.
"Asked if such roles have had a negative impact on her, the Kota Kinabalu-born says: "I had fun playing those characters. I loved them all."But after my one-year break (from acting), it dawned on me that I need to take on heavier roles," says Julia, who feels she has been typecast.
"Maybe I've been too convincing in these roles that producers can't see me in anything else."But how would they see the other facets of my talents if they don't give me a chance to try something new?"I really would love to give heavy drama a try."Julia is so serious about trying something different that she wouldn't mind going for a casting session.
"Since my resume is filled with stereotypical roles, only at casting sessions would producers and directors see what else I can do as an actress," she says.Julia adds that her past roles in action productions and her penchant for playing aggressive female characters could have resulted in producers and directors ruling her out for more feminine characters usually seen in drama productions."It'd be good to get the role of an oppressed female for once, where I would be able to play with emotions and such.
"It'd be a real challenge but I'm ready now. I have always admired leading ladi.
