Prayagraj : The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission ( UPPSC ) is mulling conducting the PCS Preliminary Examination-2024 and Review Officer (RO)/Assistant Review Officer (ARO) Preliminary Examination-2023 over two days due to shortage of centres. The shortage stems from the fact that after the cancellation of RO/ARO Preliminary Examination-2023 conducted on Feb 11, 2024, following paper leak, the state govt had made some stringent changes in provisions of selecting exam centres. Under one such clause, private schools and colleges have been banned from being made centres.

In such a situation, now only govt and aided institutions are left, whose number is limited. Now, universities, colleges, and engineering colleges are being contacted for being made centres so that the PCS examination can be conducted in one day. Even after this, it is not certain that the centres can be arranged as per the requirement.

As many as 5,76,154 candidates are registered for the PCS preliminary examination proposed on Oct 27 in the commission's calendar. However, suitable centres have not been found for the examination to be conducted in one day. The situation magnifies in case of RO/ARO Preliminary Examination-2023, wherein around double the number of candidates (10,76,004) compared to the candidates of the PCS exam have applied against 411 posts of RO/ ARO.

For the cancelled preliminary examination of RO/ARO-2023, about 2,387 centres were set up in 58 districts. Of these, 136 were in Prayagra.
