Right after her 18th birthday last May, she filed the name change from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. The filing was announced with a legal notice in The Los Angeles Times.

In a statement, her attorney, Peter Levine, discussed her decision and emphasized the importance of accurate reporting, especially when it concerns a young adult making a significant choice. “The media should be more careful in their reporting, especially when covering a young adult who has made an independent and significant decision following painful events, and is merely following legal process,” he stated Levine also made huge emphasis that Shiloh did not take out an advertisement to make the announcement. “Shiloh Jolie did not take out an ‘ad’ announcing any name change, and any press reporting that is inaccurate,” he further elaborated.
