Prayagraj: Over 150 women associated with self-help groups in trans-Ganga and trans-Yamuna pockets of Prayagraj will make around 50,000 designer rakhis ahead of Raksha Bandhan. After holding training sessions at Baharia and Karchana block, as many as 40 women are being trained for rakhi making at Chaka block on Monday itself. These rakhis will be sold in prominent markets of Sangam city and neighbouring towns.

Amit Shukla, district mission manager (DMM), told TOI, “Women are being imparted training to shape designer rakhis at Karchana, Baharia, and Chaka blocks under the banner of State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM). Over 150 women associated with SHGs in trans-Ganga and trans-Yamuna would prepare designer rakhis of different sizes and shapes, and orders for raw materials have already been placed.” Arti, a woman from Chaka block, said, “ For the past two years, we have specialised in rakhi making and more and more women are joining SHGs to increase their income.

” Last year, over 1,000 women associated with various SHGs had prepared around one lakh rakhis for sale. City-based traders’ associations have also decided to promote indigenous rakhis and other decorative products, and have already placed their orders.
