Sherwood returned to BBC One on Sunday (August 25) but viewers were left complaining about the 'poor' accents of some characters. The second series will explore similar themes through the stories of two new families in Nottinghamshire who become embroiled in local gang activity where 'old rivalries ignite fresh tensions. Two years after the first series aired to great acclaim, writer and creator James Graham penned the second series promising to explore “the powerful themes that made the first so resonant to audiences across the UK”.

This time around the cost of living crisis is brought into focus and what cuts to local services means for frontline services and the people who need them most. Meanwhile, there's a new Sheriff in town who is passionately fighting against a proposed new mine for the area. Ria Zmitrowicz plays the new Sheriff of Nottingham after previously starring in the Rochdale abuse drama Three Girls.

The new mine will bring much needed jobs to the town, but it's also an unwelcome reminder of Sherwood's troubled history. The first episode opened with a power sequence but when characters started talking, some viewers weren't so impressed. Hurrying to social media to air their frustrations, one viewer wrote on X: "New sheriff accent is proper jarring, what's it meant to be, never heard owt like it #sherwood", while a second added: "We literally just said that.

" A third chimed in: "Subtitles on but still not a clue what is going on. Ladling on the accents too.
