Little River Stephen Camile Mbunzama was born with Tracheobronchomalacia (TBM) – a rare condition where the windpipe tissue is unusually soft and weak.

He also has an atrial septal defect in his heart and two small heart holes, as well as a Laryngeal cleft. River was born in the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH), in Paisley on August 26 last year. Mum Roseann Singleton, from Helensburgh , said everything seemed fine.

But in the early hours of the following day, he showed challenges with breathing and feeding and was transferred to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow . Since then, River has spent 11 months in the hospital, including multiple months in the neonatal intensive care unit and paediatric intensive care unit, and undergone more than 20 major procedures. For parents Roseann and Rudy, the past year has felt like one step forward and ten steps back.
