Both of Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese’s upcoming biopics about two legendary guys – Jesus Christ and Frank Sinatra – have been put on hold indefinitely. broke the news, indicating the plan had been to shoot the two highly anticipated films back-to-back this year. The first of these was to be the Biblical epic “The Life of Jesus,” based on Shūsaku Endō’s 1973 novel.
Scorsese is reportedly financing that film independently and is committed to making it with the hopes of shooting in Israel, Italy, and Egypt as it explores Christ’s complex human and divine aspects. No official cast has been announced for either project, despite reports of Andrew Garfield being rumored for the Jesus role, and both are still in the development stage. At one point, the “Sinatra” film had a November start date, but last month, those involved in the production were reportedly notified that the November start date had been cancelled.
No rescheduled date has been set. Apple and Sony have been rumoured to be circling the project, but no studio has been signed, and there are serious questions as to whether Sinatra’s estate will give approval of the project. Scorsese is still set to produce a “Cape Fear” TV series for Apple TV+ alongside Steven Spielberg.
